Over the past decade, Wendell has served in various leadership roles to support the growth and well-being of Ward 7 residents. He is a fourth-term Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) (2013, 2015, 2020, and presently), and currently serves as the Chairperson of the ANC 7D Commission. He also serves as a two-term Chairperson of the Ward 7 Democrats Organization, where he has worked tirelessly to increase voter turnout and civic engagement across Ward 7. From 2015-2016, he served as the Ward 7 Liaison within the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services, working collaboratively with Deputy Mayors and D.C. government agency heads to ensure Ward 7 residents’ needs were met. From 2018-2021, he served as the lead Community Development Manager within the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, where he led and managed development projects in Wards 7 and 8.
Wendell’s notable accomplishments as a respected community leader and devoted public servant include:
Partnering with the District of Columbia’s College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences, and D.C Housing Authority, bringing the first Urban Community Garden to Ward 7 to offer fresh fruits and produce to 86,000+ residents.
Supporting the Mayor’s Office of the Clean City to adopt blocks throughout his single-member district and hosted quarterly community clean-ups throughout Ward 7 to beautify neighborhoods.
Collaborating with Safeway grocery stores annually to feed over 400 families in Ward 7 each Holiday Season.
Resolving over 2,500 constituent service issues across Ward 7 through close collaboration with a wide range of District government agencies.
Managing the redevelopment of the former Fletcher-Johnson Middle School Site while securing 42 million dollars in the district’s budget.
Supporting the redevelopment of the District’s New Communities Initiative, the Strand, and Deanwood Town Centers.
Chairing the ANC 7D Commission, and the Ward 7 Democrats Organization.
Leading a coordinated effort with other leaders across the ward during the Redistricting process that secured nearly 9,400 new residents to Ward 7
Hosted the first city-wide hybrid candidate forums for the 2022 Democratic primary, reaching thousands of residents across the district.
Increasing voter turnout by 14% in Ward 7 in the 2022 Democratic primary election.
Partnering with the Ward 8 Democrats Organization to host the first annual 2023 Champions of Change Dinner.
